What’s On the Easel ! #9

Welcome …. to, What’s on the Easel , where we talk about everything art , that’s happening at the , Lisa Lovely LPA Art Museum, I am your host , Art , and we try real hard to publish this blog , first thing in the morning every , Tuesday ! See you then !

Art : Welcome everyone and today we are putting together a brief blog from .. beautiful, Idyllwild , California , and with me today is Lisa Lovely LPA and as usual … I ask what’s on the easel ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Hello Art , good morning.

Art : Yes , good morning. It’s a beautiful morning too.

Lisa Lovely LPA : yes .. our last breakfast by the stream .. it is so peaceful .. great coffee , oats and blueberries and oat milk lol finally getting back to healthy ! lol

Art : ( sipping coffee ) …. and something special on the easel ??

Lisa Lovely LPA : Yes, our poster announcing, Art Fest 2024 ! All done this week while at Idyllwild.

Art : … and for those not familiar with Idyllwild ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Well it’s a beautiful mountain village , lots of artist around , some witches too lol.

Art : All Kinds of Artist ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Lots of musicians , painters , jewelry makers , lots and lots of art.

Art : So, is this the first for an actual , Art Fest , poster ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : The first we spent some time on , last year we whipped something up fast the night before on 9x12 water color paper , years before that just some ink on paper and earlier on we never had an official announcement in the form of a poster.

Art : … this one is more elaborate ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Yeah, it’s made on water color paper mounted to a wood base , should be around a long time , it marks the 10 th annual Art Fest. There is a lot of Idyllwild in its design , birds, trees and a cabin in there somewhere lol

Art : This trip is having an influence already on Art Fest ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Indeed. I think it will continue to show up in part at the festival.

Art : Coincidence ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : I not think so. It’s magical place that came to be just as we brought along some art supplies to make our Art Fest poster .. the timing was perfect.

Art : What is Art Fest , for those that have been heard of it before ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Art Fest is defined by three consecutive, Mondays , just over three weeks where we pretty much do nothing but make art. It coincides with our long summer vacation.

It’s like being a full time artist on overtime for almost a month.

Art : .. a lot of art gets done.

Lisa Lovely LPA : Yes , what we make in art in just less then a month is about what we normally make in about six months lol or maybe three months lol

Art : But it’s not about production ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : No, not really , it is in some ways but it’s more akin to a stream of consciousness kind of thing , when the artist are pressed to make lots of art , doors open up into the inside and some very authentic art appears.

It all happens over about 25 days … after it’s done we are creatively exhausted.

It’s a nice change from having to stop working on a project to go back and do the day job thing , as wonderful as the day job is , it interrupts doing art.

Art : The day job is essential ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Sure , for obvious reasons , it provides funding for the art lol but more then that , it’s an essential part of life.

Art : How so ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : It gets us out of the museum , gets us beyond the temple walls so to speak.

Art : Now that sounds strange … ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Eat your Oatmeal luv lol isn’t the sound of the stream beautiful ?

Art : yes … ( looking at Lisa strangely ) a very nice place.

Lisa Lovely LPA : From art comes life , from life comes art. If we sit at the easel all day the art will die , just as a life without art is very misguided and not fully available.

Art : we must go out and live to make art ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : We must be a part of the world , yes. Art Fest is very much an introverted deep journey inside , when it’s over we are kinda stunned , like in a deep fog , there is that desire not to come back …

Art : ( a look of scary confusion )

Lisa Lovely LPA : LOL to the average person we look just fine at the end of the festival, but we are deep inside and not in a good way to communicate with the outside “conscious” world.

Art : … and this is why we have the showing of the art ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Yes lol , when the event is closed we sit around and just enjoy the art , have some wine or champagne or something , we are spectators at the showing of the art not creators , and we begin to come back to this world.

Art Fest is creatively exhausting but in the end we are very energized. We go back to the world with some regrets but we know it’s necessary and so it works itself out.

Art : …. Jennifer Savino ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : A fellow witch and wonderful artist has a small boutique in Idyllwild across from the villages only theater.

Art : a special encounter ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : It was nice to meet her , it’s not everyday you meet someone that’s been there , burnt at the stake , like I have been.

Art : ( mouth open )

Lisa Lovely LPA : ( witchy laugh )

Art : We expect an official announcement soon ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : I think when this blog hits the press we will have the official announcement for this years , Art Fest ( smile )

Art : that’s unofficial ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Yeah lol let’s say that … it suppose to be a big secret lol shh

Art : We don’t know what art will be done ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : That we really don’t know , there are more ideas that could ever be done in one festival , but there is lots of canvas making happening at the museum and lots of ideas flowing , as we get close the projects will be ordered into a list but not till the morning of the festival will decisions be made as to what we will be working on for the next month.

Omg !

Art : What ???

Lisa Lovely LPA : Just got my first squirrel pic lol

Art : … and with that we are outta time ! See you next week , bye.

What’s on the Easel # 8

Welcome …. to, What’s on the Easel , where we talk about everything art , that’s happening at the , Lisa Lovely LPA Art Museum, I am your host , Art , and we try real hard to publish this blog , first thing in the morning every , Tuesday ! See you then !

Art : Welcome everyone … and it’s going to be another hot one today …116 F or maybe 118 or 117 F … I don’t think they know anymore but it’s gonna be hot.

Talking briefly today with, Our Director , and we are waiting for the big announcement…. When is Art Fest ?

But first … What’s on the Easel ?

Welcome Our Director !

Our Director : Hello Art and good morning ! What’s on the easel today is our second painting of the summer , on a small 22x22 inch wood panel , only a few sketch lines on it so far and some smudges but the artist seem rather excited about the painting already.

Art : We are waiting for the big announcement ?

Our Director : we are indeed as we bake in the heat of the Mohave.

Art : It’s all very hush hush ?

Our Director : Yes , in fact you know , no one really knows if there will be an Art Fest .. until it’s announced but we all know one is brewing. But we suppose to act like it’s a big surprise lol

Art : There is a lot going on in the background ? ( sipping coffee 4:25 AM )

Our Director : Lots of canvas making in the museum and it is of course the tenth annual Art Fest , if it should happen at all ….

Art : .. and no one knows what art will be made this festival ?

Our Director : We really do not know , there are more ideas on the table then could ever be done in one festival .. right now there is a giant canvas completed that’s sitting in the museum , along with five other canvases , maybe a medium wood panel , and lots of rumors about what will become of each canvas … but again we don’t really know …

Art : the coffee is good …

Our Director : poured in some extra beans ..

Art : We have some new supplies ?

Our Director : yes some water new water colors from Japan and some Micron pens and I think they may make an appearance in Art Fest, most likely during our Reno trip that will take place during the fest.

Art : the infamous Reno Trip , at one time thought to be the killer of Art Fest ?

Our Director : Yes , indeed , but really it has had no negative impacts , we simply take our show on the road , and it has inspired some new ways of working and some good art.

Water color painting itself , emerged because of trips to Reno , and that’s the way the festival rolls out , no matter what happens we make art.

Art : ( watching the clock ) there are possible life obstacles that could play into Art Fest ?

Our Director : yes , life continues to happen , people die you know , they don’t check the art schedule when they do.

Art : Your own brother passed away at the start of Art Fest ?

Our Director : yes , two brothers that year , one just at the start of Art Fest and that was during the big plague. It made for some very special art, celebrating my brothers spirit leaving this world and entering a new one.

Art : spirits entering other worlds sounds like something, Lisa would say … witchy stuff ..

Our Director : LOL well I spend a lot of time with the witches lol the magic rubs off lol

Art : .. with that we are out of time .. we are out the door in 9 minutes … so stay cool everyone and we will be waiting for the big announcement !

Bye !

What’s on the Easel … new painting.

What’s On the Easel ? #7

Welcome …. to, What’s on the Easel , where we talk about everything art , that’s happening at the , Lisa Lovely LPA Art Museum, I am your host , Art , and we try real hard to publish this blog , first thing in the morning every , Tuesday ! See you then !

Art : Yumny … truth in broadcasting , it’s ,Sunday afternoon here in the desert , almost 110 F , but I am inside , nice and cool , and with me today is , Lisa Lovely LPA … we are eating Arugula , pork chops and drinking cold black tea , and we are getting a jump on things for , Tuesdays , What’s On the Easel ? … and so I ask , Lisa ,what’s on the easel ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Hello , Art lol , what’s on the easel is our very first painting of summer !

Art : That’s great and you are going to tell us about it today … I gather ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Sure, Art , I will try to lol

Art : Yummy pork chop , a lot of people don’t realize this blog often goes down at 2:30 AM sometimes partly on the way out the door …time is always running out lol … but today , it’s Sunday, we are at an afternoon lunch … things are a bit slower .. and ..

Lisa Lovely LPA : maybe it’s better, a new trend lol at least I not falling asleep lol

Art : .. you have said, you find it difficult to write about the art you make ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : yes

Art : Why so ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Because the paintings are in a very different language then the languages we often use to write, you see , and to write about them you have to do a very difficult translation as the paintings are more like dreams , not ground in logic , and the languages that we write , often depend a lot on logic.

Every sentence we write has a logic to it , every paragraph , is built on logic , entire books are built around a logic , we can analyze the logic of a book if we know how , but the paintings I make are not ground in logic , and in translating them to words , that make sense , very tricky.

Plus, I have a hard enough time painting , I not a very good writer lol

Art : Dreams are not based in logic ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Well, I don’t think so , we force a logic on to it , you know , the second we wake up and go to write down our dream , that we just had , we are again writing , and forcing the dream into a logical framework…

Art : hmm

Lisa Lovely LPA : … dreams are more like poetry and poetry not so logic dependent as in critical analysis of a painting. At least I think so.

Art : How do you know what your dreams are about ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : I don’t know. I just can never be sure … But, I find it more useful to ask myself , how did I feel during the dream.

Art : How you feel ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Yes, angry, sad, frustrated , furious , terrorized… feelings, being aware of them often starts to let me open up my dream and see what it’s saying to me … and of course , painting the dream.

Art ; Painting it ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Yes , cause the painting is in the same language as the dream … very easy to paint a dream , usually … painting is a form of poetry. You see.

Art : … and this painting is titled what ??

Lisa Lovely LPA : Dancing Under the Sycamore Tree.

Art : It’s from a dream ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : kinda yes … I think almost all my art comes from dreams … but this one was a dream that emerged during the day lol

Art : Now that’s weird , you dream during the day ? When awake.

Lisa Lovely LPA : it’s kinda like dreams are bubbling up from my sleep , even though I am already awake , they still bubble up ,and I can catch a glimpse of them … you know … before they pop. lol

Art : this is what happened in , Reno ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : I believe so…

Art : What happened ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : I was on a trip to , Reno , decided to pass on shopping at , Hobby Lobby and decided to do the sit in the car thing while everyone else went into the store.

Art : You passed on shopping at an art store ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : lol I did ! … and while sitting in the car I realized I was in the shade of a big , Sycamore tree.

Art : ( filling his glass with Black tea looking at Lisa )

Lisa Lovely LPA : lol help yourself , tea is free around here lol

I realized I needed to paint the tree and me under it, playing my flute. That’s about all I had to go on … that’s what I caught from the dream as it bubbled up and popped.

The Sycamore also has a lot of symbolism

That fits perfect into my current life situation. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Art : ( slurp ) but it gets busy under the tree ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : I got lonely I guess lol , and the usual characters showed up. The Magician and his wife , a man from YouTube that plays a an instrument called the , Dulcimer to the tune of , “I’ll Fly Away”, and the boy.

Art : it’s a happy time ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Yes, we are all playing music and dancing.

Art : Why ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Because, it’s fun lol to dance and play music , and it’s a special time.

Art : Why special ? ( giving Lisa that look )

Lisa Lovely LPA : ( Lisa filling Arts glass with the Black tea ) drink lol it’s good for you !

It’s special you see , because the boy is leaving the safety of the trees canopy , he is going after one of the Magick ballon’s , knitted by the Magicians wife and we are all hoping he catches it !

Art : Why not just give it to him, a Magick ballon ??

Lisa Lovely LPA : No no no … never we can do that … we can play music … we can entice him out of the tree but he and he alone must go after the magick. It’s extremely important he take the balloon on his own , his own choice.

Art : why does he need to be enticed out of the tree ? He is safe there you said but safe from what ??

Lisa Lovely LPA : it’s a dangerous world out there you know , Magick doesn’t come without its perils. When you take it on it’s a big responsibility, and it’s not for us to put him upon this danger.

He must take that step freely.

Art : (sigh) and this dream this painting relates to what’s going on in the everyday world ? … or is it just something that exist on your wood panel ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : you know today we see parents being very protective of their children , we don’t let them out of the house these days , with all the news of bad things happening in the world …..

… well you see it happens in our own psyche as well … we keep the inner child inside.

Art : that’s the first time today you called the boy the inner child and again talking of the psyche stuff ! The boy is in the psyche not the wood panel ? … and he is the inner child ? What’s that mean , inner child ?!

Lisa Lovely LPA : lol ( hugging Art ) , everyone in the painting is in the psyche and it’s my psyche and maybe it’s kinda the same in yours too. No one in the painting exist on the wood panel lol they are all part of me .. you see … and the inner child is nothing really special , just another part of the psyche that the other parts try to keep protected …

But like our children , that we might be keeping under lock and key these days, the inner child too is sometimes over protected and if so he won’t grow … if he stays in the confines of his tree , his jungle , safe as it is , it will kill him. He has to go out into the world.

Art : ( slurping ) … it’s too much to handle !

Lisa Lovely LPA : … and if the inner child does not grow .. the psyche will not grow as well and then issues arise.

Art : we have to grow up you mean ? … and that is scary and requires we take risk ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : that’s right … inside we have to grow .. you might be all grown up on the outside … big with muscles and so on and even starting to get old and beginning to fall apart lol like me lol but inside the psyche can be in trouble.

It may not be growing ! As it should.

Ohh you may well be an adult you know and taking on responsibilities and so on , maybe you are even the president of a big corporation or a country or something.

But inside you might not be growing so evenly .. and that’s not so good ? So, the painting for me is about opening up and taking that psychic stand.

Art : Scary ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Can be very scary sometimes, but we are celebrating now in the painting. It’s a happy time.

Art :(smiling ) .. with that … I am almost going to say we are out of time …

Lisa Lovely LPA : lol ( drinking last of my tea the ice has all melted ) ,I talk too much lol

Art : we have a date coming up ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : yes lol I promise.

Art : candles , incense, wine , and we are going to talk about your art … and what you have learned from it ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : we will do it , promise , how much sense it makes lol we will see lol

Art : there is a lot going on now ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : a new panel goes on the easel in a few minutes to get gessoed. Lots of canvas making in the background … thoughts ideas emerging. The psyche very jumpy and busy.

Art : Art Fest is near ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : closer then I want to realize … I don’t know where the time has gone.

Art : what will be painted , when does it start ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Not even the artist know that lol it’s always hush hush , but it is the tenth annual festival and it’s going to be standing room only ! lol.

Art : So, register early ??

Lisa Lovely LPA : you bet … and this Sunday afternoon blogging works great for me lol

Art : it does lol and we be out in publication on Tuesday. It’s going to be a crazy short Fourth of July week , so we did the interview today.

With that … we are outta time folks !! See you next time, When we ask , What’s on the Easel ?

Bye !!!

What’s on the Easel ? #6

Welcome …. to, What’s on the Easel , where we talk about everything art , that’s happening at the , Lisa Lovely LPA Art Museum, I am your host , Art , and we try real hard to publish this blog , first thing in the morning every , Tuesday ! See you then !

Art : … and I ask What’s on the Easel ? Welcome everyone to this week’s blog , with me today , Our Director.

Our Director: Hello Art , great to be here , once again, on the easel is our newest painting , almost completed, on deck another small wood panel.

Art : lots of wood panels lately.

Our Director : yes, we have been doing wood panels , since , last years, Art Fest. But there is a lot of canvas in our future, the transition back to canvas might be interesting.

Art : Art Fest , it’s getting close , and always hush hush lol , what is Art Fest , for those new to the gallery ? Oops I mean , Museum.

Our Director: Art Fest is just over three weeks of creation , our biggest event of the year , we try and do not much but eat, sleep and make art.

Art : Happens when ?

Our Director: It’s an August event , a chance to get out of the heat , and just make art , with out being interrupted by the regular life activities.

Art : but we don’t know when yet ?

Our Director : No, but we expect it will start around the 9 th of August , but that’s all speculation. No one really knows.

Art : Besides Art Fest , what’s going on this year ? Can we get a look ahead from you today ?

Our Director: Sure Art , coming up real soon this July, a trip to , Idyllwild , California, a long weekend up in a mountain cabin , I thinking some watercolors will come out of that trip.

Art : A return to water colors

Our Director : oh yes in a big way this year.

Art : I see , after , Idyllwild ?

Our Director : After that , Art Fest as we mentioned already , and then things will get quite a bit different then usual ..

Art : Ohh ???

Our Director : we will be doing our next biggest art event , Halloween and day of the dead festivities , but after that’s over, we are packing up for Hawaii !

Art : Hawaii ????

Our Director: Almost two weeks on the , Big Island, so lots of picture taking but the trip will be done with water colors.

Art : Wow. An exciting place to do water colors ?

Our Director : Oh yes. We are excited about the trip. We have done lots of photography on this island in the past , but this is the first trip where painting will be the medium used to capture the essence of the island.

Though , I suspect we will see lots of pictures too.

Art : Anything, this December ?

Our Director : We have a winter work shop planned for post Christmas and into January.

Art : So, lots going on this year !

Our Director : yes, started kind of slow the year , as far as new art goes but picking up momentum rather quickly and we are approaching our 200 th painting !

Art : … and with that … sorry.. we are out of time ! See ya next week , when we ask , What’s on the Easel !

Bye … stay cool out there !

Photo : our newest painting almost complete.

What’s on the Easel ? #5

Welcome …. to, What’s on the Easel , where we talk about everything art , that’s happening at the , Lisa Lovely LPA Art Museum, I am your host , Art , and we try real hard to publish this blog , first thing in the morning every , Tuesday ! See you then !

Art : Welcome , everyone , Welcome , Lisa Lovely LPA ,to our often very brief blog, where I ask , as always , What the heck is on the Easel ??

Lisa Lovely LPA : lol What’s on the Easel is our new painting , a 24x24 inch , acrylic painting on wood panel.

Art : … and how is that going ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : It’s moving along nicely , we are at that exciting moment, when the painting comes to life , and it’s all starting to make sense.

Art : Now you have said once , you don’t really know where a painting is heading when you start ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : yes , that’s so , when I start a painting , often , it’s like being in a fog , I can see what’s ahead but it’s all kinda cloudy , and when I get through the fog and start to see where I am , it’s a very exciting, moment , and that’s , where we are now , in this painting.

Art : So , you don’t plan everything ahead of time ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : No. The creative moment, happens on the canvas. I am surprised , as anyone , when it’s all done.

Art : Would it be easier to do some pre sketching , studies etc. , before getting started ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : It would make perfect sense , to do that but I don’t do it that way lol

Art : Why ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : I know there are many artist that plan out everything before doing the painting , very useful , but I need to start on the canvas , in a bit of a fog, when there is some confusion , something inside takes over , a kind of quiet voice , guides my hands , and I discover , what is happening inside and I have to get it down into the painting , before , I start thinking too much.

Art : So you don’t plan at all ??

Lisa Lovely LPA : There is some planning , sure , nothing is so cut and dry , in my painting , but in general , I tend to lean in the direction of working in the fog. When I can’t see, then things happen.

Art : Anything in this painting , that helps , illustrate this foggy painting.

Lisa Lovely LPA : ( LOL and a witchy giggle ) .. yeah … like the tree … if we want to paint a tree often the canopy has some, symmetry .. at least the ideal tree … does … you know the tree in a perfect world .. but when I put down this tree … one side of it , went way off to the right … right to the far right edge of the painting …

Well … it didn’t sit well with me .. yeah , trees come in all shapes , but this was a sycamore, and composition wise , it seemed very awkward….

Art : ( sipping coffee ) Soo what happened ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : I went to bed lol I thought to myself , I need to erase that , in the morning , it was bad , but I woke up and decided to let it stay , then thought , nah , erase it !

Sigh !

Art : lol

Lisa Lovely LPA : It wasn’t really until a week later , I realized what was happening…

Art : ohhhhh ???

Lisa Lovely LPA : If you look with your , witchy eyes , you might see the part of the tree canopy , that extends off to the right , has the shape of an, Ichthyosaur !

Art : A what ??? lol

Lisa Lovely LPA : ( rolling eyes ) the Ichthyosaur , lol , the sea creature , that swims in the seas of , Nevada !

Art : But they are all dead ! The sea is gone, dried up.

Lisa Lovely LPA : Extinct , but this one came to visit me , while I sat parked , in Reno , under the sycamore, but I never realized it , until , I started to paint.

The boy is walking on the back of the , Ichthyosaur.

Art : … and where he come from if they are all dead , extinct ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Came out of the fog lol

Art : The fog , like the movie the Fog ? lol

Lisa Lovely LPA : No, lol , silly , from deep within the psyche.

Art : That psyche stuff again.

Lisa Lovely LPA : LoL yes , and not the imagination ! But she never would have visited if I sat at the painting , with it all figured out. I would have ended up with a tree in the painting , just a tree. Maybe a very picturesque tree but , no, ichthyosaur.

That point of confusion , that fog , is paramount to making the kind of art , I make.

Art : I want to say lol … we are out of time ,it’s getting too witchy for me lol .. we almost are out of time , one tip for the new acrylic painter , what size canvas is best to start with when first starting to paint ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Ofcourse, there is no simple answer, not too big , not too small lol , is probably good starting advice , I think if a new painter went to the local hobby store , get one of those , 50 % off coupons , and bought a big package of , 16x20 inch canvases , that would be a great way to start.

Art : Those are good quality ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Plenty good , they are already , primed with gesso , but get a good gesso and add a couple of coats and you are set to go.

If you can’t afford a big package of canvases , just get one canvas , and get started !

Then as you get into it , go , bigger or smaller as you will.

Art : With that we are definitely, out of time !

Bye everyone , thanks everyone for tuning in , thanks Lisa and we will see you next week , when I ask , What’s on the Easel ?

Bye !!!

What’s on the Easel ? #4

Welcome …. to this weeks , What’s on the Easel , where we talk about everything, art , that’s happening at the , Lisa Lovely LPA Art Museum, I am your host , Art , and with me today , Lisa Lovely LPA and we are talking about tips for you to get started in art ! but as always I will first ask .. What’s on the easel ?

Art : What’s on the easel , Lisa ? ( she looking at me with devilish grin lol )

Lisa Lovely LPA : well , Art, what’s not on the easel is our coffee ! I mean it is 4:00 am in the lol

Art : ughh , I will get that started , lol , how rude of us to drag you out at four AM and grill you with questions at this terrible hour in the morning. LoL

Lisa Lovely LPA : lol well I up at 3 AM , so the day already starting to roll lol ( I start the hot water kettle )

What’s on the easel is our newest painting , that’s turning out nice , inspired by a trip to Reno , while parked under a , Sycamore tree.

It’s the first painting of the summer , tentatively, titled , “Dancing Under the Sycamore Tree.”, to be continued as we move along.

Art : and you are playing the flute in it.

Lisa Lovely LPA : Yes lol outside the painting world I try and play the flute lol not very good at it lol

Art : lol ok coffee brewing.

So, what tips do we have for someone starting in art , maybe like in your situation , older , no training in art ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Well, older younger, it not make a difference , just start doing it , you don’t need a license to make art , like a brain surgeon does, lol , so pick up some kinda tool , and start making art.

Art is very much , on the job learning.

Art : Doesn’t one need to follow rules ? Learn perspective ? How to shade ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : No no no lol only rule is , there are no rules !

Art : There are no rules ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : None. If you feel you need to learn perspective , learn it , need shading learn it , but pick it up as you find the need.

Art : Rules are bad ? LoL ( pouring hot water into the press )

Lisa Lovely LPA : Rules are ok , and some people like rules , rules lead to process and process , very often leads to the same result, and if that’s what you want , great , perfectly fine , some people people want a certain kind of painting to make , so, follow the rules follow the process , if that’s your thing.

Though , when one abandons the rules , one begins a journey , and who knows where it will lead the new artist. Could be a life changing event.

Art : wow , so don’t be afraid to explore ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Don’t be afraid to just get started ! … and yes , go your own way.

Art : you have talked about artist preference ? Same thing as there are no rules ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Artist preference, a little different, then there are no rules , it means just do it the way you prefer. I might start painting one way , and start another painting another way the next time , I might like one paint brush and you might like another , maybe I like my studio messy you like yours very neat lol it’s all preference it’s all fine , do what you like , not worry about making the same choices as others. We all have our likes and dislikes.

I might prefer to paint in the morning , you at night.

I like traditional art , you might like working digitally. Whatever , right ?

Art : hmm , is getting started in art expensive ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Not have to be expensive. Start simple use whatever supplies you already have , don’t fixate on art supplies that are so expensive, you can’t , afford to start or do art !

My tip in that regard , start looking around the house , the junk draw , the garage , even the backyard , you might find things you can use in your art that you already have laying around.

Next stop , the local dollar store, you can buy amazIng tools at the dollar store to help you in making your art. Save a bundle.

This summer we are starting a 4x6 painting. To buy an easel to hold that size painting steady would cost a fortune , ten years into painting and for this project , I will go in the yard and grab two cinder blocks , put them under the canvas , lean the canvas on the coffee bar, and a perfect easel , and I save a fortune !

Improvise … will save you a lot when making art.

Art : on that note the coffee is ready lol but we are out of time !!!

Lisa Lovely LPA : Omg lol ( sipping coffee , about time lol )

Art : thanks everyone for joining us , thanks Lisa , good luck on the new painting , can’t wait to see it done and hear about it soon.

Lisa Lovely LPA : Thanks lol bye everyone !

Art : we will see you next week when we ask , What’s on the Easel !!

What’s on the Easel … #3.

Welcome …. to this weeks , What’s on the Easel , where we talk about everything, art , that’s happening at the , Lisa Lovely LPA Art Museum, I am your host , Art , and with me today , Lisa Lovely LPA and we are talking about her role as curator, of the , Lisa Lovely LPA Art Museum, but as always I will first ask .. What’s on the easel ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Hello, Art , what’s on the easel , is the summer session , it’s finally arrived and we have on the easel currently, a 24x24 inch wood panel and a lot of painting ahead of us this summer.

Art : A new painting ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : yes, lol something inspired by my latest trip to ,Reno.

Art : That’s great. Now, let me get this straight, you have several titles at the museum , artist , witch , curator and whatever lol .. what’s the , whatever title all about ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Thats means whatever does not get done by the first three titles I get to do that too lol , I basically do everything !

Art : lol , So, what exactly is a curator ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : I like to sum it up this way .. a curator is the keeper of the art or some other collection of items. In our museum , I curate art. I keep the art !

Art : A keeper ? Like someone that keeps animals at the zoo ? lol

Lisa Lovely LPA : lol kinda , Art, when art is created, it is always changing , when the work is complete and the artist signs it , it doesn’t end there , the art goes on living , it needs a place to live , it gets damaged and it may need to be repaired , it ages and it needs to be taken care of and during its life it needs to be made available to the world, so, it can be understood and maybe even through its existence, enrich the world some how.

Art : All that is done by the curator ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Yes. It’s a big job and responsibility.

Art : What’s the hardest part of being the curator at the , Lisa Lovely LPA Art Museum ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : well , a big challenge as a curator , is there is just not enough of anything , not enough space, money , time. This is not just an issue for us , many small museums are facing such challenge’s and many small museums are closing. It’s very disturbing when you hear a beautiful small museum must close its doors. But it happens.

Art : Space is an issue ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Very much so , often people get the idea that the museum is a very big place , round numbers , it’s only 20x20 feet and our painting collection is closing in on two hundred paintings , plus we have our own wood shop , an area to make clay , wood block printing, and now room must be made to house our growing collection of clay art ,and we have a substantial library , various tools , art supplies and so on.

Also, the museum adjoins a residential dwelling , so in part , we have to contend with all the junk you might run into in a typical garage !

The big issue is we are always making new art , so , our collection, is always expanding but our museum stays the same size lol

Art : Now, you are the curator and artist , does that cause issues ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : It can , you know, the artist does not want to hear that space is limited , if a painting , needs to be very large , then large it will be , but the curator says, where the hell are we going to put that painting when its done !

It’s not a trivial issue , if there is , no safe place to store a large art work , it will get damaged maybe destroyed , long before it’s time.

The artist does not want to hear this , and it drives the curator insane. But if a painting is special and must be large and it’s not painted because of space limitations ? What then ? What could be lost ? This kills the artist.

Art : … and you are both the artist and curator .. and so ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : … and so , I drive myself crazy ! lol but together , the curator and artist manage somehow lol.

Art : The gallery is … officially , a museum ? What is a museum ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Yes, after the big renovation , we have qualified to be called a museum. A museum cares for things that are of value to the larger culture of humanity. In our museum we curate art.

Art : How is the art of this museum any value to others outside the museum ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : The art collection contains pieces of my psychic existence, the pieces help me understand, what’s ticking inside , how my psyche works and that I think is important to living a better life.

Maybe , others , by experiencing the museum , will find a key to their own psychic existence. Maybe , it will help them somehow, to start their own journey.

Art : Psychic existence , sounds kinda witchy ? lol What does it mean ? lol

Lisa Lovely LPA : Nooo lol it’s not witchy lol it just means we are more then who we think we are , and when we find the proper key, we can unlock the part of us , that’s unknown to ourselves , and when we do that we become better beings.

Art : Better ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : Just more aware of who we are. When we know more about who we are , we make better choices. We live more happy and we can help others be happy.

Thats all really.

And it’s the curators job to take all the art that’s in storage , collecting dust , and all the scattered information about such art , and somehow , make it presentable to those that may visit the museum. Such that , the visitor , has the best chance of clicking with the art.

Art : So, what’s a very big goal for you as curator at the museum , what would be the ultimate goal ?

Lisa Lovely LPA : what we all work for at the museum , artist , curators , witches , whatever , is to be ready to move into the new museum , someday, and the museum, itself will be a work of art.

But again we face time and money issues and the curator helps in that as well by preparing budgets for funding and so on. Money is always an issue but time is a bigger one , it’s always running out , those of us at the museum , won’t be here forever , that’s where the witch comes in. If we don’t finish it in this life we may have to come back again, that could take centuries !

Art : Uhhhhh and with that , I must say we are out of time ! Thanks , Lisa and thanks everyone for joining us today … see you next week, when we ask , What’s on the Easel ?

What’s on the Easel : First, painting of the 2024, summer session. 24x24 inch wood panel , still in the gesso stage.

By the Way , What Exactly is Gender ?

There is a lot of fiery, discourse , surrounding gender these days , head banging , gun toting , fear mongering, just plain violent disagreements over issues related to gender.

But, what exactly is gender ?

Can anyone agree ?

Trying to define it , is like walking through a minefield of exploding cans of worms. We encounter , genetics , socialization, feminine , masculine , and a never ending list of genders , and in the end , just as bewildered as when we started, we are void of a clear definition.

So ….

What exactly is gender ?

Let me propose a new definition. A simpler cleaner definition.

To define gender , we need to think in terms of sets, recall, a set contains a group of objects , that all have something in common.

Let’s define some sets that will be useful in a bit to explain gender.

A set containing all pink socks. The set , Pink Socks , goes in the top draw of the the dresser , the , Blue set of Socks , goes in the second, draw. If you mix , add the two sets of socks together, all in one draw, you have created, a union , of the two sets … and this is the gist of some basic set theory.

Gender is a special kind of set , a set I will call an abstract set. It contains, elements, that are very real , but we can’t quite get our hands on them when we define the set , we can’t put the elements of an abstract set on our feet, like we can elements from, the sets , blue or pink socks.

We can now define gender ;

Gender = { A set of all possible solutions , to all problems, humanity will ever encounter. }

That’s it , that’s gender.

No biology , anthropology , sociology , culture , genetics , required.

Not much there to argue about , fight about , kill each other about !

It’s not so complicated as it is strange. It’s strange because it’s does not sound like anything , gender like.

“Humanity” , here, means a single human or billions , living on the Earth or spread throughout the universe , now , or in the future.

Humanity, will encounter all sorts of problems , now, and as it moves into the future , the solutions to those problems , are contained in this set , called , Gender.

I say the set is abstract as the solutions are not present when the set is defined, they come later as a tangible form.

Good definitions should be useful and help to clarify a subject , so let’s begin clarifying gender, using this new definition.

If we draw a line half way through this set called, Gender, and view this line as a barrier, we have attained the state of being , gender locked.

When gender locked , humanity, one or many, are on one side of the line and can’t obtain solutions on the other side of the line.

By working to dissolve the line that divides , the set , Gender , we achieve , the state of, Gender fluidity.

Gender fluidity , means , being able to access all the solutions in the set , with equal effort.

Back to our socks !

Our sets of socks , are a simple way to understand , being gender locked or fluid.

The socks can be viewed as solutions, to the problem , what to wear today on my feet ?

The set of ,Pink Socks and Blue Socks , are both present in the set , Gender.

However , if we draw a line through the set , Gender , and the pink socks end up on one side of the line and the blue socks on the other side , we have attained a state of being gender locked.

When gender locked ,in this case, you must settle with one color sock or the other , when you get dressed in the morning.

As you are on one side of the line. You can’t cross the line !

You have less solutions. ( less colors of socks to wear on your feet )

Dissolve the line , attain gender fluidity and you can now choose either color sock , pink or blue.

More solutions.

Easier to get dressed in the morning , if all the pink socks are in the laundry , just wear blue !

While our sock example is simple , maybe even trivial , gender lock , can be extremely dangerous to your own well being and to the survival of humanity.

As I write this blog , the world is inching closer to another kind of war, global nuclear war, a special kind of war , a war where no one can win. It will change life as we know it , hundreds of millions will die or wish they were dead.

“Global Nuclear War”, is a modern , high tech , solution, to a very old problem, how to live together on the planet.

It’s a solution, like all solutions , contained , in the set, I have called , Gender. A set you can now think about as you move through your day to day life and as as you encounter todays problems.

There has to be better solutions of how to live together , then , Global Nuclear War, in our vast set called , Gender, but to find it , we need to achieve , as a humanity, a gender fluidity.

We need more solutions.

All solutions are not equally accessible.

Because humanity is gender locked.

But solutions must be equally accessible.

This is gender fluidity !

The human mind , that generates , this set called , Gender , must be gender fluid, if not, humanity won’t survive what it’s now facing.

So,now, think about gender , as I defined it here. Apply it and see if it helps you. It may help you, know gender in a different light , put out the fiery discourse , help you live a fuller life.

It may even save the world.

Let me know how it goes.
